Arco Carnival Celebrates 125th Year with Parades and Events

On the Trentino Riviera of the lake, the Grand Austro-Hungarian Carnival of Arco is currently taking place, now in its 125th edition. It is one of the most evocative and famous carnivals not only nationally but also unquestionably the most characteristic of the entire Benaco basin.

Afternoon Program

This afternoon, at 2:00 PM, in Piazza Segantini, there will be a display of old trades, with free carriage rides in the historic center.

At 5:00 PM, in Viale delle Palme, the city will host a welcome for Archduke Albert of Austria and King Francesco of Naples, accompanied by members of the court.

Parades and Float Processions

Tomorrow, February 25th, six floats will compete for the silver trophy awarded to the best. The entries are: “Videopoker” by the Giullari di Ceniga group; “Cartoonia” by the Mattacchioni; “Olimpocaos, the only place where you live like a god” by Giamaica; “Mary Poppins” by the Associazione Manifestazioni of Riva; “The Crazy Ones” by the Piasaroi; “The Clown King” by the Burloni di Arco.

Emilio Cinquini, head of the Viareggio workshop, has been tasked with preparing some pieces that require particular craftsmanship.

Between floats, Polish majorettes, the Millenium Marching Band, the Ussari di Budapest, the fife and drum corps from Dozze, the Vigonese Band with majorettes, and the social band of Cavedine will perform.

Parade and Opening Ceremonies

The parade will be led by the president of the Committee, Albino Marchi, the sponsor Giada Ogliari, and the twenty debutantes who, just last evening, participated in the ball at the Casino.

They were accompanied by high-uniformed knights: the students of the Guardia di Finanza military school of Predazzo.

The Arco Carnival will be repeated in a week: on Sunday, March 4th, the most beautiful floats in the entire province will appear.

Events on the Veronese Shore

On the Veronese side, we highlight the original masked party scheduled for Monday night, on the ski slopes of Malcesine.

This is a parallel race involving two heats, with course inversion.

Participants can use any means: bobsleds, inflatables, inner tubes, mattresses, kayaks, snowboards, sleds, or even mountain bikes.

The event is organized by T&C Versini of Trento, in collaboration with the ski lift manager Mauro Zuccali, the director of the Malcesine Ski School Pietro Monaci, and the Atf Malcesine Monte Baldo.

Expected participation is around a hundred people. The race will feature music, and beer, mulled wine, grappa, tea, and hot chocolate will be offered.

An interval with fireworks is planned. A banquet and awards ceremony will follow at the Capannina, starting from 10:00 PM.

Participants will ascend by cable car from San Michele between 6:30 PM and 8:00 PM. At 8:15 PM, bib numbers will be distributed, and the event will start at 8:30 PM.
