Kindergarten Renovation in Town Center Completes, Expands Facilities

Nuns and parents breathe a sigh of relief. Especially now that the kindergarten in the town center has returned to full functionality after the renovations of the past few months, which included expansion and modernization of the school building on via Marra.

The work was actually extended beyond the initially planned timeline due to unforeseen issues, including significant complications and danger of collapses, which necessitated intervention with different measures from those originally scheduled. These setbacks, which unfortunately often occur, caused delays that the mayor regards with regret, particularly for the inconvenience inflicted on the reverend mothers and families.

Interventions and work performed

“In the operational phase, we faced a building,” says Luca Sebastiano, “that not only showed its age but also revealed that it had been built economically, thus lacking several structural deficiencies. In fact, we found ourselves needing to address a situation different from what was planned, to the extent of having to carry out supplementary and varying measures to the already approved work, with an increased expenditure of 139 million euros over the 250 million euros initially funded for the first phase”: works that have been fully completed and will conclude with landscaping, including the garden and children’s playground.

The director of the nursery, Sister Anna Letizia, expresses great satisfaction with what has been achieved by optimizing existing spaces and recovering new covered areas, thus filling the inner courtyard of the building itself. This has resulted in more space for dining, more adequate areas for psychomotor activities, and for the children’s afternoon rest.

“These works,” says Sister Anna Letizia, “have been closely followed by the president, Countess Adriana Carlotti Bernini, who intervened on several occasions by suggesting suitable proposals, which were well received by the workers involved.”

New facilities and services

The reverend mother’s eyes light up when she shows the kitchen, which is spacious and completely new, equipped with some of the most modern appliances. “What made the children especially happy are the new playground equipment installed in the large activity room for psychomotor exercises, which is divided from the children’s rest area by a mobile panel.”

Currently, there are about seventy children enrolled in the town’s kindergarten, including around ten children of non-EU nationals, divided into three classes.

“The unforeseen issues encountered during the work,” admits Mayor Sebastiano, “forced us to use available funds (120 million euros) for a subsequent intervention that involved renewing the windows on the east wing of the building and improving the exterior of the property. These works are now postponed, necessarily, until a new financial plan is approved, most likely next year.”
