Lonato Alpini Commemorate Battle of Nikolajewka on 58th Anniversary

For the Lonato Alpini, today will be a day dedicated to memory, on the 58th anniversary of the Battle of Nikolajewka. An event in remembrance of the fallen and the missing, but also an occasion to honor the few survivors of that tragic episode of January 1943, witnesses to a past that must not be forgotten.

The gathering repeats punctually every year thanks to the meticulous organization of the Alpini Group, which on this occasion also celebrates Tesseramento Day for 2001. The assembly point for the rally is set at 8 a.m. in the square of the middle schools.

After the gathering, the parade will begin through the streets of the town center, accompanied by the local musical band, directed by Maestro Carlo Righetti. At 10 a.m., a religious moment will take place with the celebration of a solemn Mass by mons. Giuseppe Boaretto, with participation from the great choir of the basilica, and the blessing of the new banner.

Religious ceremony and laying of wreaths

Followed by the laying of laurel wreaths at the monument to the Fallen and Dispersed in Piazza Martiri della Libertà, in the presence of military and civil authorities.

The day dedicated to the Alpini will conclude after noon at the «Rustichello» restaurant on Viale Roma with the traditional meal. For Tesseramento, it is possible to go directly to the headquarters, located in the former courthouse on via Zambelli.
