Municipal Council Allocates €600M for Castle Restoration, Aiming for Summer Opening

The municipal council has found a ‘shortcut’ to accelerate the restorations of the castle, awaited for years and otherwise destined to face further delays.

Funding and Planned Interventions

It has allocated 600 million euros to restore the upper part of the medieval fortress built by the Counts of Arco. The funding will complete the setup of the summit of the fortress and finally allow the entire historic area to be opened to the public.

“The interventions will occur, of course, with the contribution of the provincial superintendent for cultural heritage, led by architect Pontalti, who carried out previous restorations,” explains Councilor Ruggero Morandi. “We have already submitted the preliminary project to the provincial experts for approval.”

The main effort will be for the Renghera tower, located at the top of the cliff (inside a floor will be installed), and for the other similar structure, lower down, called Laghel. Other planned works include cleaning up the path leading to the Renghera, ensuring the safety of the entire area, and equipping it with various services, including a video surveillance system.

Restorations and Future Events

The residual restorations, in the lower part of the fortress, will be handled by the Province, concerning the tailor’s room and the former church.

“We hope to close the construction site by July,” concludes Morandi, “because at the castle, in agreement with the Province, the most important summer events of Trentino will be presented, including, among others, Oriente-Occidente, Drodesera, and our Castelfesta.”

It will be a unique opportunity to increase the already significant influx of visitors.
