Salò Approves Lake Road Safety and Infrastructure Improvement Plan

Agreement between Salò and other locations on the middle-lower lake

Salò approved the programme agreement with the Province, the Mountain Community, and other towns around the middle-lower lake (Desenzano, Lonato, Moniga, Padenghe, Manerba, Soiano, Polpenazze, Puegnago, San Felice del Benaco, Roè Volciano) to assign a technician the task of designing interventions aimed at securing the state road 572 Desenzano-Salò and the provincial Cunettone-Tormini.

Palazzo Broletto will cover 50% of the costs, which total 150 million euros,” explained Mayor Giampietro Cipani. “The remaining amount will be divided among the various municipalities based on the length of the section. For example, we will need to contribute about ten million euros.”

Minority observations and proposals

Minority representatives voiced their concerns. Renato Cobelli, from the PPI area, suggested following legal procedures in selecting the architect or engineer, incorporating bike lanes (“the area is conducive to creating lateral spaces”), and considering studies already approved and funded.

“Since preliminary design must be completed within ten years, we risk waiting a century before seeing the executive project,” Cobelli concluded.

Opinions and concerns regarding timelines and safety

Independent councilor Mauro Ventura shared similar views: “We need to significantly reduce the duration of this assignment, especially since at this stage we just need to gather cartography and existing project documents.” The mayor agreed.

Vincenzo Zambelli expressed concern about certain sections, particularly the Cunettone roundabout (“a very dangerous area where illegal parking occurs, which would require police presence at least in the morning hours”).

The public works councilor, Bernardo Berardinelli, explained that an executive assignment has been awarded for Cunettone, which will help in rationalizing vehicle entries and exits, pedestrian crossings, and parking.

Ultimately, the agreement was approved unanimously.
