Riva’s Road Upgrades: €13B Funding Accelerates Local Infrastructure

Is the Province rushing to complete the Arcense ring road with the construction of the northern segment? Well: the municipal council does not want to fall behind and is accelerating the highly expected modernization of the internal road network.

Let’s talk about the roads in the south-western area, towards Riva: those of Le Grazie and via S. Caterina, where a large part of the traffic from the new artery converges and where the western ring road of Riva will emerge: thus the traffic from the Gardesana Lombarda.

The Veronesi administration has already allocated over 13 billion euros in the budget for this year, including costs for repairing and widening some adjoining roads. A significant portion of this funding has been transferred from the Province since most of the roads affected by the work are owned by it.

The municipality intervened to prevent delays that could have lasted years, which would have caused the already exceeding traffic congestion to worsen over time.

Road works and funding

The largest financial and technical commitment, around 5 billion euros, will be for via S. Caterina. It will cover the section between the intersections of via Grande Circonvallazione and via S. Andrea (junction for Ceole), a heavily trafficked area due to the presence of numerous shopping centers and artisanal businesses.

At these two points, two roundabouts will be constructed with the dual purpose of efficiently regulating the considerable vehicle flows and reducing their speed. Pedestrian and bike lanes with protective barriers and evergreen trees, serving anti-smog and anti-noise functions, will be located nearby.

Simultaneously, the adjacent via Cerere will be renovated at a cost of 700 million euros. Remaining at its original size as an inter-farm road, it has become the outlet for nearby residential settlements that developed without essential urban infrastructure.

The upgrade of the Strada delle Grazie is also of significant scope, from the detour for Varignano to the Ceole roundabout. With 4.2 billion euros from the Province, this narrow road will be widened and rectified, as it is constantly used by articulated trucks due to the nearby artisanal area.

Alongside this, the entire road will be fitted with a missing sidewalk to ensure pedestrian safety, mainly for those heading to the Santuario delle Grazie. As a final touch, the essential public lighting system will be installed.

Similar interventions will be carried out on the narrow via Vittorio Veneto, which connects the provincial road to the settlement of Varignano. The estimated expenditure exceeds one billion euros. Thanks to the operational speed set by the mayor Renato Veronesi’s administration, the various contracts will commence shortly, allowing construction sites to begin by December.
