Castiglione Approves Public-Private Partnership for New Historic Center Parking

Monday evening in the city council, a draft agreement will be approved between the municipality and the company Int.Dep.Cast. for the organization of parking in the historic center of Castiglione.

This is a technical step toward the construction and subsequent management of the parking lot that will be built beneath the Castello, between the fortress itself and the Banca Popolare di Verona. A public work that the administration has decided to have built by via Gerra company, a private enterprise with public capital that is increasingly taking on the features of a municipal company, and which is also considering the construction of an indoor swimming pool.

Characteristics of the parking lot and management procedures

Of course, Int.Dep.Cast. will face significant costs to complete the new parking lot, and therefore, with this agreement scheme, the administration intends to establish a cost amortization mechanism, reviewable annually, which could lead the company led by Nunzio Belluzzi to favor paid parking.

The parking lot will have a capacity for 150-160 cars; it will not have asphalt or concrete, but will be paved with tiles and extensively planted with local species. Furthermore, no earthworks will be necessary, as the area is already structured into regular terraces.

Currently, two access points are planned: from via Garibaldi, immediately after the Famedio, and from the now unpaved road from the former state road to Desenzano, as well as the pedestrian passage leading from the parking area to the staircase of the Torre Civica.

Work status and purpose of the parking lot

Int.Dep.Cast. is finalizing the purchase of the area from various owners, and with this agreement, it will be able to proceed definitively with the construction work, likely to be completed by the end of the year.

The parking lot is intended, at least in part, to address the shortage of parking spaces in the historic center and also to decongest urban traffic: the two access points, from via Garibaldi and from the road to Desenzano, would facilitate stopping cars outside the most central area of Castiglione.

Regarding the Castello, the parking space will serve the new parish inaugurated in recent days.
