San Pietro Preschool ‘Arcobaleno’ set to open in September 2023
The new preschool in San Pietro, called Arcobaleno and part of the Istituto comprensivo numero 2, weather permitting, is scheduled to be operational next September. According to the forecasts of the Public Works counselor, Innocente Sereni, barring unforeseen events, the children of Castiglione will be able to start the 2001-2002 school year in the four new classrooms of the facility located north of media Don Milani.
Current Status and School Structure
Currently, the young students are housed in the elementary school building, but both the elementary and preschool facilities are short on space. The construction of the nursery school in the San Pietro area was one of the earliest projects undertaken by the Sigurtà administration, and it is now coming to fruition, confirming the extensive time required for public works.
The new building will comfortably accommodate the approximately 80 children enrolled this school year. «The external finishing works are currently being tendered,» explains counselor Sereni. «These include the garden, lighting, and parking areas. The structure will be completed by April 30, while outdoor work should finish in August.»
These days, the company is installing underfloor heating, and the windows have already been fitted. «Work is progressing without interruption,» adds Sereni, «so we believe everything will be ready by next autumn to welcome the children. This way, the elementary schools will have adequate space, and the preschool will have a completely new and much larger environment.»
Costs and Other School Works
The school cost approximately 3 billion lire, including the acquisition of 13,000 square meters of land. In related educational infrastructure, the new cafeteria for the school canteens is also ready, located in the industrial area.
«The structure was completed in November, within the planned timeline,» comments the counselor. «The service will begin as soon as the winning company of the five-year tender is installed, and once all the necessary equipment for preparing and delivering meals to the schools of Castiglione is installed.»
