Brescia Red Wine Selected by Christian Barnard for Health and Charity

It is produced in the Brescia area, specifically by the **Costaripa** winery in Moniga (owned by **Mattia Vezzola**, also director of Bellavista, and his brother Imer). This is the red wine that Professor **Christian Barnard**, a pioneer of heart transplants, chose as the official wine of his Foundation, which is dedicated to the issues of African children orphaned by AIDS (approximately 12 million).

The wine was presented yesterday at the Lombardy conference during Vinitaly. A quarter of the sale price of each bottle is donated by the Moniga-based company to the organization: Professor Barnard will present this wine at all his conferences worldwide, during which he often speaks about the therapeutic effects of red wine on health.

Therapeutic Effects of Red Wine

“The flavonoids present in wine have an extraordinary antioxidant power,” Barnard explained yesterday via phone from Cape Town. “Two glasses of red wine at dinner are a pleasant way to stay healthy and to prevent heart attacks and other cardiovascular disorders.”

There is no doubt from the professor about his choice of wine: “Red, Italian, and if possible from Garda.”
