Limone Tunnel Blast Operations to Increase Noise in Local Area
The booms, resembling prolonged and persistent thunderclaps, warn the residents of the succession of blast rounds in the Limone tunnel, coming from the south entrance and the middle entrance. In both cases, the tunnel has penetrated sixty meters into the mountain.
Mid-week, the Collini company will begin using explosives from the north side, where so far only the large machinery scraping the rocky wall has operated. It is expected that the explosions will be very loud throughout the entire urban center.
Communications and safety measures
The site manager will announce the timing of the first detonations, so that windows can be opened in the houses most directly exposed to the wave of air to prevent glass breakage. The company will start with relatively small charges precisely to limit the inconvenience.
After the explosions of the first days, the noise is expected to diminish, both because the tunnel will have entered deeper into the mountain and because a sheet capable of dampening air displacement is planned to be installed at the Riva entrance.
Materials and intervention timeline
The lake discharge of the residual material will begin as soon as possible.
