Guidizzolo Launches Free Protected Transport Training for Volunteers
Protected Transportation Training Course
In the municipal gallery, from Friday until June 8, a protected transportation training course will be held every Friday evening. It is offered free of charge to 15 volunteers in the sector and is organized by the Centro servizi volontariato mantovano (Csvm) upon request from the Volunteer Group and the Municipality of Guidizzolo.
The training is led by two speakers. The first is responsible for the relational component, providing participants with an overview of how to relate with the transported individual, their family, and public entities, as well as offering more effective tools for organizing the service.
The second focuses on the technical and basic first aid knowledge, offering, through individual exercises and group work, suitable means to handle emergency situations: particularly transportation-related pathologies and rescue positions.
Certifications and Service Development
Participants will receive a certificate of attendance, and handouts on the various topics covered will be distributed. The Gvg began the protected transport service in 1992, expanding it over the years to confirm the initiative’s significance.
From November of last year to March, 210 transports were carried out compared to 250 for the entire year of 1999. Since September, the service has been regulated: in fact, the Gvg signed an agreement with the Municipality that defines the responsibilities and roles of each party, ensuring the service complies with regulations.
Recipients and Operational Modes
The transportation service, aimed at citizens in conditions of discomfort, especially the elderly, is currently limited to reaching healthcare facilities in the area. However, plans are underway to extend it to other social utility structures once more resources become available.
For partial cost coverage, beneficiaries—excluding the most vulnerable—are asked to contribute, with flexible amounts depending on their socio-economic conditions.
The service is administered free of charge by volunteer drivers and administrative staff, while the municipality remains responsible for financial relations with users, collecting payments.
However, the Municipality bears the main costs related to the regular and extraordinary maintenance of the vehicle, office management, and all insurance expenses.
Booking Procedures and Hours
The transportation service operates from Monday to Friday throughout the day (exceptionally on Saturday mornings). Reservations, which must be made in advance, are available at the office on Via Solferino 4, from Monday to Friday, between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
