Riva Lakefront Expansion Gains Momentum with New Shoreline and Infrastructure

Many residents in Riva probably haven’t even noticed, but the enormous trucks from the company constructing the tunnel beneath Rocchetta no longer pass through the city center.

Starting yesterday, it is no longer necessary for the heavy vehicles to travel all the way to Ceole to unload the excavation debris from the tunnel: they can now do so directly into the lake waters, just outside the tunnel entrance, initiating what is the first of three expansions planned along Lungolago D’Annunzio.

Work along the lakefront

While the material was sinking into the lake waters, having slid down the large debris cone formed a few meters south of Casa Rossa, operations continued to prepare the area and the seabed for the second phase.

Having finished the backfilling of the small beach area beneath the stairs, trucks will move slightly further north, beyond the former toll house, and begin to deposit the material there.

Subsequent phases and overall project

Once the second phase is completed, filling of the third and final “lot” of the lake, between the pine trees and the outlet of the Ponale hydroelectric plant, will commence.

At the end of the excavation operations, Riva will have nearly 1,700 square meters of new shoreline, which will not only host a new promenade but also provide green spaces, benches, and kiosks, revitalizing a part of the lakefront that has been almost entirely neglected until now.
