Castelletto Good Friday Procession Honors Jesus’ Passion in Torchlight

Traditional gathering in Castelletto with the Good Friday Way of the Cross. More than a hundred youths from the small hamlet of the Upper Lake are participating in organizing the sacred procession (pictured is one of the previous editions), which will start shortly after 8:30 PM from the parish church to wind through the characteristic alleys of the village, reaching the ancient medieval village of Biaza.

Just over one and a half kilometers to depict the stations of Jesus’ Passion, summarized in seven figurative scenes. The entire event takes place in a magical atmosphere, illuminated only by torchlight. For this occasion, the village’s public lighting will be turned off, creating a special effect and allowing the faithful to feel more immersed during the procession.

Organization and Participants

The initiative, which has enjoyed great success for years, has been made possible thanks to the efforts of the Comitato amici delle bisse with contributions from the Municipality and under the patronage of the Azienda di promozione turistica Riviera degli Olivi and the Provincia di Verona.

Given the large crowd and especially the number of foreign tourists (last year, nearly three thousand people participated), the organizers arranged for sacred texts to be read in German and English, in addition to Italian.

Variations and Program

Unlike previous years, some actors will leave their fixed positions to follow the pilgrims along the route, guided by don Luigi Marogna. The procession will be enlivened by the Coro Anzolin de la Tor di Riva del Garda.

Among the characters, young Giusy Sabaini, a municipal police officer in Garda, will portray the Madonna. In case of rain, the event will be canceled.

Due to the limited availability of parking spaces, the municipal police have granted permission for vehicles to park along the Gardesana road.
