Desenzano Hospital Hosts Free Lung Assessments for National Breath Day

“Breathing is living: measure your breath, improve your life.” With this slogan, tomorrow, Saturday, May 26, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the doors of the Pneumology Department of the Desenzano hospital will be open for free lung and air assessments for anyone interested.

The initiative is part of the “National Breath Day” promoted by the study group of the Italian Hospital Pulmonologists Association (Aipo) with the sponsorship of the Ministries of Health, Environment, and Public Education, the Italian Red Cross, and Legambiente.

The goal, as explained by the Division of Bronchopneumology, led by Dr. Francesco Farisè, is to promote awareness regarding prevention, diagnosis, therapies, and rehabilitation of social respiratory diseases, as well as to strengthen the fight against smoking, including through the involvement of schools and volunteer associations.

Participation and Objectives of the Event

This is the seventh time, according to Dr. Antonietta Melchiorre, a physician working in the mentioned department, that the hospital’s division participates in this socio-health initiative.

The “Day” targets the general public, general practitioners, respiratory patients and their families, young people, and healthcare workers, aiming to carry out serious primary prevention against damages caused by environmental pollution and cigarette smoke, which affect over 25% of the population above 14 years of age, and to prevent the progression of already existing respiratory conditions, often disabling or even fatal.

Therefore, tomorrow at 9 a.m., in the “Montecroce” auditorium, staff, in collaboration with volunteer groups, will provide free examinations: respiratory function tests, allergy tests, and more.

Video cassettes will be shown, brochures distributed, and some diagnoses and therapies explained. For further information, contact 030.9145222 or visit the website www.giornatadelrespiro.pneumonet.it.

Comment from the Health Director

Prof. Castellani, director of the hospital company, states: “The day was initiated based on the epidemiological observation of the progressive increase in respiratory illnesses and the significant social and economic impact they entail.”
