Lake Garda Hosts Major Sailing Events, Featuring Top International Competitors

The Giro d’Italia has been archived (but what a show the Sirmione-Salò time trial was, with over half a million enthusiasts lining the street despite the torrential rain), and Lake Garda remains at the center of worldwide attention with one of its classic sports: sailing.

From the 13th to the 17th, Gargnano will host the «Pedrini Cento Cup», an event in the World Grade One circuit, and the «Marina Yachting Cup» for sailors under 15. A celebration of sailing and the lake that will culminate in the most spectacular part with the head-to-head races (similar to the America’s Cup) of the Pedrini.

The winner of the most important sailing trophy in the world, the Swiss Russell Coutts, remains the favorite ahead of the competition, but everyone will be against him, starting with the Italian boats affiliated with the «Luna Rossa» and «Mascalzone Latino» consortia.

Promotion and Participants

The sailing events, like the Giro d’Italia cycling race, will serve as important promotional moments for the lake’s image, and the event is supported by the Regione Lombardia, Parco Alto Garda, Comunità del Garda, the Riviera dei Limoni Consortium, the Province and Chamber of Commerce of Brescia, and the Associazione degli Albergatori.

Among the young Optimist sailors, there will be two teams from Singapore, accompanied by a television crew.

The same applies to the «Pedrini Cento Cup», where Swiss sailors (featuring stars Coutts and Butterworth) and German team «Illibruck» will have cameras, radio commentators, and about a dozen photographers following them.

Media Coverage

A daily 2-3 minute news segment will be provided by Eurovision, while all other coverage will be managed by the CV Gargnano organization itself.
