Castiglione’s June Festivals Honor San Luigi and Red Cross Torchlight March
June in Castiglione is dedicated to the two biggest events of the year: the festivals and initiatives organized to remember San Luigi (known as the Aloisian Days) and the Torchlight March with the Solferino-Castiglione torch relay, which attracts hundreds of groups from the Croce Rossa Internazionale (International Red Cross), which has the only historical museum in the world in Castiglione, coming from numerous countries around the globe.
The Aloisian festivals will take place from tomorrow until June 21, leading up to the activities that will then culminate with the Torchlight March, scheduled for Saturday, June 23.
Tomorrow, June 16, at 4 p.m., the «Pagine di storia castiglionese» exhibition will open in the Galleria Santuario in Piazza San Luigi, curated by the Circolo filatelico numismatico. A series of documents that the public will be able to visit until June 24.
At 6:30 p.m., in the Refettorio del Collegio delle Vergini di Gesù in Viale Boschetti, another opening ceremony for the exhibition dedicated to «Luigi Beato e Santo in collezioni mantovane», curated by Gianluigi Arcari and Umberto Padovani.
Events of June 17
On Sunday, June 17, at 9 p.m., in Piazza San Luigi, the dance schools Città di Castiglione, Il Cigno, and Il Tersicore will present «Danza 2001», a showcase of performances offered by the students.
Events of June 19
On Tuesday, June 19, again in Piazza San Luigi, at 10 p.m., the fire and duels show with trampoline actors titled «Deus lo vult» will be presented by the Compagnia dei Folli di Ascoli Piceno.
Events of June 20
On Wednesday, June 20, at 9 p.m., in the courtyard of Palazzo Gonzaga, the theatrical performance «L’annuncio a Maria», a mystery by Paul Claudel, performed by the Accademia teatrale Campogalliani of Mantova will be staged.
Day of San Luigi Gonzaga
Thursday, June 21, the day of San Luigi Gonzaga, will feature an important ceremony in the salaconiaria at 6 p.m., with the awarding of the civic honor «Luigi D’Oro», followed at 7:30 p.m. by a solemn mass at the Duomo di San Luigi celebrated by the bishop of Mantova, Monsignor Egidio Caporello.
Finally, at 8:15 p.m., the plaque created by Professor Gino Salvarani on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the Pope’s visit to Castiglione will be unveiled.
