Eight Seniors Over 95 Honored at Local Elderly Celebration in Torri
Eight “grandparents” over 95 years old were awarded by the municipal administration and the local Circolo Anziani. This was the way in which the president of the Villa Melisa Circolo Anziani, Angelo Zamboni, together with the mayor of Torri, Alberto Vedovelli, and the cultural assessor Daniela Peroni, wanted to celebrate the annual day dedicated to the elderly.
A few days ago, defying a very strong thunderstorm that tried in vain to disrupt the day for the sprightly and now also honored “youngsters,” born in 1903, 1904, and 1906, around two hundred seniors gathered in the park of the villa housing the Circolo and enjoyed a lunch consisting of three types of risotto, salami, and desserts.
Awards and recognitions
“This year for the first time,” explained a very proud Angelo Zamboni, “even the administration wanted to participate in the celebration of the oldest citizens, which the Circolo has been organizing for several years. Essentially, we awarded the three oldest individuals who had not been previously recognized in past years, while the administration wanted to honor all residents of the municipal territory who had reached ninety-five years of age.”
Thus, three gold medals donated by the Circolo and five baskets of local specialties such as oil, lemons, wine, and more, were awarded to those who proved they were entirely unbothered by the ailments of age. For everyone else, also donated by the administration, a small bag of locally produced lemons was handed out.
The awardees
Emilia Zucchetti, the oldest among all thanks to her remarkably lived 98 years, stood before Agrinaldo Pescetta, just a few months younger but also from the class of 1903, and then Zaveria Pavoni, born in 1904 and all from 1906, including Benedetto Giacometti, Aldina Cavedaschi, Giuseppina Giacometti, Maria Repetto, and Guerrino Vedovelli.
“We will continue this from now on,” announced the cultural assessor Daniela Peroni, “this beautiful event, in which the elderly seemed to have enjoyed themselves greatly.” The same sentiment was expressed by the mayor Alberto Vedovelli, who, due to a breakdown of the municipal minibus, also assisted in transporting the elderly from Albisano to the Circolo with his car.
“We also need to thank,” concluded Angelo Zamboni, “the Albisano events committee, thanks to which we had a tent, assembled and loaned to us for free, where we could celebrate despite the bad weather. We are also very pleased with the participation and sensitivity shown by the Municipality and hope that in future years, we will be able to host representatives from neighboring circles. For example, this year we also had representatives from Garda among us.”
