Desenzano Hosts Charity Rock Concert for Indian Child Adoption
Children on the Streets. Abandoned. Children beaten and abused, taught to steal, mutilated by their parents to garner the sympathy of passersby. Children to love in only one way: by supporting them through remote adoption.
Desenzano is doing just that. Fifty young children from Bengal have already been taken off the streets. To save more, feed them, and help them attend school, on Saturday evening the «Andrea Celesti» Auditorium in Via Carducci will host «Live for India», a rock concert for charity. Entrance will be by free-will donation: all proceeds will go toward the cause of distance adoptions.
Organization and Objectives
The idea for this solidarity show, sponsored by the Municipal Administration, was conceived by «Evoluzione 2000», a Desenzano-based artistic group composed of Giovanni Boscaini (a musician with the «Loderia», a young glam band), Nicola Mansueto and Enzo Parisi (respectively, leader and manager of «Mescal»). The three organized this event this year, as they did last year in Lonato and two years ago in Sirmione, to support Loredana Prosperini, a teacher at the Itis Cerebotani di Lonato, in her mission (almost) impossible.
«It isn’t easy to do good in such desperate circumstances», explains the teacher. «It’s not just about feeding the hungry: we need to educate them». Confucius once said: if someone is hungry, teach them how to fish.
Images of Solidarity
Professor Prosperini flips through photographs of acts of solidarity. Here she is with Helen, the first girl adopted in Manginapudi, a small fishing village on the Indian Ocean, in the Bengal Gulf. Here she is at Visannapeta, a poor village in the forest of Andhra Pradesh.
Still in Manginapudi, where her students at the Itis have adopted a boy named Shudakar. In front of the school in Vijayawada. «School is a euphemism, for these centers run by Father Noel Harper. He collects abandoned children off the street, often in tragic conditions».
Father Noel Harper is the reference point for «Care & Share», the association to which Professor Prosperini belongs. «We spend the summer in India: anyone who wishes can join us and see firsthand how the charitable funds are used».
Contacts and Event Details
To support distance adoptions, you can contact the phone numbers 030/9141063 and 0347/2530164, or email loredanaprosperini@tiscalinet.it. «Live for India» will start at 9 PM.
The performers will include Desenzano’s own «Mescal», true stars of Garda rock, along with the «40 Watt» and the «Zuzeca» from Pozzolengo. Three young and interesting bands in sequence. The «Auditorium in Via Carducci» is expecting a sold-out crowd. The music will be good. The cause, even more so.
