Arco Prepares for Dalai Lama Visit with Art Competition and Exhibitions
The preparatory steps for the community of Arco leading up to next Friday’s meeting with Dalai Lama, the highest Tibetan religious figure, have begun.
The Municipal Culture Department has initiated a series of related events, primarily a ideas competition for creating an art piece related to the arrangement of the Garden of Peace in the city of Palme, which will be visited by the Dalai Lama.
Results of the ideas competition and artistic projects
The competition, announced last year, saw the participation of 12 artists and designers from across Europe.
Ultimately, the judging panel awarded first place to engineer Akad Gerhardt Kadletz of Bogen, one of Arco’s “twin cities,” with his proposal to create a large stone star in the park’s center.
“Now we will see how to incorporate this idea, along with all the others,” explained the cultural assessor Ruggero Morandi, “to develop this peace park. In the meantime, starting next Thursday, everyone will be able to see these works in an exhibition in the casino’s hall.”
Exhibitions and displays during the visit
An additional exhibition opened yesterday in Sala Segantini, on Via delle Canoniche, as part of the activities related to the Dalai Lama’s visit.
This is a photographic exhibition titled “Tibet: Faces, Nature, and Spirit.”
Some of the photographs are the result of the travels of Dara Madjanovic and Paolo Parolari, passionate travelers and photographers who captured the essence and depth of a country and its people with their lenses.
The other displays photos by Maurizio Doro, taken during one of his evocative journeys.
