Lake Garda Water Quality Stable, Beaches Reopening After Improvements

The recent controls carried out by the local health authorities have confirmed the excellent health of the waters of the Lake Garda. Throughout the entire lake perimeter and across the 125 sampling points, only a couple of temporary bans have been registered, both in Padenghe, in the lower Brescia side of the lake, at Porto and Santa Giulia.

The latest analyses, moreover, have shown favorable results for these two beaches as well, which will therefore be reopened for swimming if the upcoming sampling confirms the positive outcomes. The drastic reduction in periods of non-swimmability already recorded starting from last season is a clear testimony of the efforts made by both the Consorzio Garda Uno (Brescia-based) and the Azienda Gardesana Servizi (Verona-based) in the extraordinary maintenance work of the collection system, aimed at eliminating water infiltrations and the radical coatings of the circum-lacustrine collector’s plants.

Water Controls and Management

The good quality of Lake Garda waters is guaranteed for bathers through constant and repeated controls carried out over time by the Public Hygiene Offices of the Local Health Authorities, by Arpav of Verona, by the Public Health Laboratory of the ASL of Brescia, and by the Health Authority of the Autonomous Province of Trento.

Since the end of June, the Regione Veneto has launched the Gardameteo service, in collaboration with Arpav. “This new service aims to enhance the tourism offer of Veneto and therefore of Garda,” stated regional councilor for Environment Policies Renato Chisso. “It follows an already existing road opened by the Region with environmental certification for some campsites along the Venetian coast, and will soon extend to some campsites around Garda.”

Weather Forecasting Services

This initiative also includes collaboration with Arpav for predicting the mucilage phenomenon in the upper Adriatic. The service consists of a specific bulletin for the Verona area of Garda, issued daily around 6 PM.

This bulletin provides forecasts for the following day and the trend for the next two days, aiming to help tourists better plan their vacations and daily activities. The Gardameteo service, in addition to data on sunrise and sunset, the general weather evolution, wind direction and speed, temperature, and relative humidity, all available on the internet at: www.arpa.veneto.it.
