BardaLino Wins Fifth Garda Rowing Race, Verona Waters Continue to Shine
Veronese rowers continue to impress even in Brescia waters during the fifth race of the Garda rowing championship. This time, the winner of the evening’s prize was the Bissa Bardolino.
Having returned to full strength after a prolonged absence that kept him out of the first two races, Bruno Maffezzoli, the crew from the Centro nautico di Bardolino, managed to strike at the right moment with a winning move.
“Finally at Gargnano,” says chaperone Luciano Montresor, “we also had the help of the ‘banded’ goddess.” The Bardolino was drawn to start in the first selection trial, placed second behind the Clusanina after competing on the outside lane, with the third position for Preonda, another Bardolino boat, followed by the Benacense from Toscolano-Maderno and the Torricella from Cassone.
The Bardolino crew thus had plenty of time to relax while the other two selection trials were underway, and managed to draw the second lane for the final race, a more sheltered position compared to the outside lanes.
Final and other participating boats
The final featured four boats from Scaliger. A short marked race with only one lap and a single turning point: a head-to-head between Garda and Bardolino, with the latter pulling ahead in the end; in third place was Ichtya, eight seconds behind, and fourth was Foscarina.
Great performance also from Birba of Lazise, which qualified for the final heat for the second time, after Gardone’s race.
In the previous selection heats, Foscarina, the Gardone boat, had advanced ahead of Birba, followed by Serenissima of Salò, Regina Adelaide of Garda, Ca’ da Mosto of Salò, and Lacisium.
The third heat saw an exciting duel between Garda and Ichtya, with the Garda quartet winning by a couple of seconds. In third place was Portesina, followed by Sebina, Villanella— the local boat—and San Ercolano of Toscolano-Maderno.
Upcoming events
Next Saturday, the rowing regatta heads to Veronese waters, concluding with the last three events, starting with Lazise, then on August 4 at Cassone, and for the grand finale, in Bardolino on Saturday, August 11.
