Riva’s West Ring Road Project Nears Tender After Cost Increase

Not only does the Circonvallazione Ovest of Riva continue to be one of the priority road projects planned by the Provincia for the next three-year period, but the executive project by engineer Claudio Tiso is almost complete and, barring bureaucratic delays, the work should be put out to tender by the end of the year.

The provincial engineer responsible for the intervention has indeed incorporated in record time the modifications suggested by the «observations» of the citizens affected by the expropriations and deemed compatible with the public interest. The news broke yesterday morning in Trento.

The Minister’s visit and project updates

This is where the municipal councilor for public works, Pietro Matteotti, went to hear from engineer Tiso the latest moves regarding the Circonvallazione Ovest. A fruitful trip, as it allowed confirming that the over four kilometers of the road will have expedited timelines, although geological investigations, especially for the tunnel section (640 meters from the parking lot of via Monte Oro to via Ardaro, just south of San Giacomo), have determined that the project costs will rise from 58 billion lire (the initially forecasted amount) to 64 billion.

Although the intervention falls under provincial jurisdiction, there is still appreciation from the Consiglio rivano in Trento: this is why, before the European tender, the Tiso project will be available for review by the residents of Riva by the summer.

Details of the ring road and expected benefits

The Circonvallazione Ovest will start from via Monte Oro, on the summit of the current (and historic) Riva ring road, and will extend traffic to the Grazie junction. The first 2900 meters of the route will be entirely new: the tunnel section will be followed by other asphalt stretches interspersed with a series of eight roundabouts, designed to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic at each intersection with the existing roads.

The new road will be strategic in alleviating congestion in the center of Riva, reducing the number of vehicles that currently pass through the city even if directed elsewhere. The main beneficiaries will be, in order: viale Canella (which currently absorbs all vehicles coming from the Gadesana Occidentale), viale dei Tigli (which now also channels vehicles from the Ledro valley, but not headed to the city center), the roundabout of Inviolata, and the entire Pasina area, which was heavily affected in recent years.
