Municipal Restores Menghini Nursery with €1.2B Project for Cultural Use
On Wednesday, July 31st, a public auction will be held for the renovation works of the former Menghini nursery. The building, located on via Cesare Battisti, currently hosts the civic hall and religious meetings of foreign communities, and will be restored after years of decay, both in terms of systems and construction.
The total cost of the project will be 1.2 billion euros, financed through the issuance of Boc, bond securities placed on the market on behalf of the municipality. After the renovation, the building will host cultural and recreational initiatives, such as exhibitions, conferences, training activities, and events for representation.
Guidelines for the restoration
The municipal administration, and in particular the Department of Public Works led by Innocente Sereni, has decided to carry out a minimalist restoration of the building, limiting interventions to a minimum, both to respect its historical features and to contain costs.
The only significant change involves installing an elevator between the different floors of the building, in addition to the electrical, sewage, hydraulic, and fire prevention systems. Interior and exterior painting are planned, respecting the original colors.
External rehabilitation works
Besides the removal of some partitions and other improvements in the halls of the former nursery, external work will be carried out, such as the rear access for disabled persons. Meanwhile, the landscaping of the garden and fencing will be addressed at a later stage, with new resources.
