Valtenesi Launches ‘Valtenesi Sicura’ Initiative with New Police Vehicle

The new vehicle will arrive in Valtenesi in the coming days. It is part of the Consorzio formed among various Polizia Urbana commands for the implementation of the “Valtenesi Sicura” project, which has been a key topic in Valtenesi for some time.

This project involves all seven municipalities that make up the Valtenesi territory and reached its official debut during a public meeting held on the rainy morning of September 24th in Manerba, between the mayors and the Brescia Prefect Anna Maria Cancellieri.

During that occasion, we recall, a Protocol of Understanding was signed by all parties, including mayors and the prefect, each committing to their role in making this corner of Brescia land, overlooking the lake, safer from increasing criminal activities.

Among the attendees at the official event were the leading military authorities, starting with the Questore of Brescia Paolo Scarpis, the commanders of the Carabinieri and the Guardia di Finanza, as well as the president of the Provincia di Trescai Alberto Cavalli.

Naturally, the first step following the signing of the Protocol was to equip the new service with operational tools, including a contribution provided by the Regione Lombardia.

The first purchase was a car, a Alfa 156 2000, which will be fitted with distinctive markings of the Polizia Municipale “Valtenesi”. A satellite navigator will also be installed to facilitate navigation within the area of jurisdiction.

At the same time, four bulletproof vests were bought for officers on duty. Municipal officers will also participate in training courses organized by IREF.

Each municipality will allocate six hours per week per officer for this service, with officers dedicating 30 hours a week to regular municipal police duties and 6 hours to “Valtenesi Sicura.”

The operations center will be based at the Polizia Municipale di Manerba headquarters. Among the commitments made in Manerba, the Prefect agreed to “provide information and updates regarding preventive initiatives to combat criminal phenomena present in the territory, as well as evaluation elements on their scope and causes; promote the exchange of information, evaluations, and suggestions both for critical situations on the territory and response strategies.”

These interventions are to be executed in a coordinated manner by state police forces and local police forces, specifically concerning initiatives that, within their competencies, can be employed to counter critical situations; and involve holding periodic meetings, also during special sessions of the Provincial Committee for Order and Public Safety, convened at municipal offices, to exchange information and assess the situation of law and order in the municipalities of Valtenesi.

This trial is to last one year from the date of the Protocol signing, i.e., from September 24, 2001.
