Polpenazze Launches Vetrina del Vino Novello Bresciano Event
The Polpenazze Wine Fair has done it again: the organizing committee of Lower Garda’s most important popular event has decided to break the long interval between fairs by organizing a new event, starting tomorrow. This is the inaugural edition of the “Vetrina del Vino Novello Bresciano,” which will be held over two weekends at the Centro Sportivo. The event is organized not only by the Fiera Committee, but also by the Comune di Polpenazze and the Unione Sportiva.
Event details and charitable purpose
The event is sponsored by the Ente Vini Bresciani and especially by the Provveditoria dei Vini Novelli Bresciani, the body that unites 20 wineries representing all DOC zones of Brescia, accounting for approximately 70% of the province’s total production. At the “Vetrina” in Polpenazze, opening tomorrow and closing on Sunday 18th, then continuing from Friday 23rd to Saturday 25th, visitors will be able to taste all the Novellos from the Provveditoria, which will be paired with a selection of typical Garda dishes (charcuterie, cheeses, and especially spit-roasted meats with polenta).
The event opens at 7 pm on Friday and Saturday, and at 3 pm on Sunday. A charitable initiative is also associated with the event: the proceeds will be donated to the parish church for roof renovation. The small town of Valtenesi, renowned mainly for its Fair, is launching a new adventure on the wave of the great success that Novello is enjoying throughout Italy.
Trends in Novello wine production
This year, national production has exceeded 18 million bottles, with a 7% increase compared to the previous year. In Brescia, the Novellos came from a “five-star” harvest, foreshadowing the high quality of the products to follow in the coming months. The Provveditoria produced 162,000 bottles, a decline reflecting the high quality of the raw material, which producers have decided to reserve for more structured wines.
However, the entire production has already been sold via reservation. “Novello is popular because it is young and informal,” says Francesco Bottarelli, coordinator of the Fiera Committee in Polpenazze. “It’s a wine that can be enjoyed in jeans, versatile in pairings, and we decided to dedicate this event to it.”
The idea, which I and the president of the Fiera Giuseppe Turrina devised with Roberto Avanzini, president of the Unione Sportiva of Polpenazze, was immediately embraced by producers and the Ente Vini. “For us, this showcase is a way to strengthen the role of the driving event that our Fair continues to have, thanks to over fifty years of experience in promoting Brescia wines. And, why not, a way to give Novello the dignity and representation it deserves.”
