Arco Transforms into Winter Garden with Greenery and Nordic Attractions

Starting from the coming weeks and until the end of February, Arco will become an winter garden. The squares of S. Anna, Tre Novembre, Marchetti, and Segantini will be dotted with large flower beds filled with evergreen plants. Less extravagant but equally effective, decorations will also adorn the main city streets (Segantini, Vergolano, and Ferrera).

The initiative aimed at re-establishing the image of Arco Felix is by Assocentro and coincides with the now-established Christmas market. The characteristic wooden booths, which from December 1st will host vendors selling decorations and other Christmas items in Piazza Segantini, will frame the city’s green landscape.

A large arch made of climbing plants will be installed at the main entrance of the market, while inside, huge plants will be placed. Greenery will also spill over into nearby squares. A broad flower bed will be created in front of the Collegiata, another will be established beside the church facing Palazzo Marchetti. A third will be built on the opposite side of the sixteenth-century building, in Piazza S. Anna.

Decorative Elements and Institutional Collaboration

A majestic bear, made from a neatly pruned evergreen plant, will be placed here. It has been lent by the director of the gardens of Merano, Francesco Decembrini. “To realize the image of Arco as a winter garden, the collaboration of the municipality was crucial, especially that of assessore Fabrizio Miori and geometra Augusto Ricci,” states Matteo Tamanini, president of Assocentro.

Thanks to the municipal gardening services, even the streets of the historic center, particularly notable sites like Palazzo Panni, will have a nearly spring-like appearance. The goal of the association of local merchants, which I preside over, is to suggest a Mediterranean idea of Arco to the numerous visitors of the Christmas market—a town where the climate has always been particularly mild.

Additional Activities and Planned Attractions

However, we thought of adding a typically Nordic attraction: an ice skating rink. It will be set up next week in the area between the market and the Bar Centrale. I am confident that skating will be a hit too».
