Garda scam alert: Fake officers impersonate Carabinieri to con vendors

They impersonate Carabinieri when making telephone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

They are not soldiers, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, police, firefighters, or municipal guards.

How to recognize scams and how to respond

They often offer subscriptions to non-existent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the true Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect that you have been targeted by individuals who,
