Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri to Trick Hoteliers and Business Owners
They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Medio and Alto Garda regions, offering subscriptions to military-related magazines.
They are not soldiers but scammers who, each time, claim to belong to the finance police, police, fire brigade, or local police authorities.
How to recognize scams and how to respond
They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.
Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri – just dial 112 – as soon as you suspect you are being targeted by someone who,
after collecting the money, disappears without a trace.
