Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri to Trick Garda Businesses

They impersonate Carabinieri when calling hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or municipal officers.

How to recognize scams and how to respond

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with the law enforcement.

So be cautious and immediately alert the Carabinieri – simply dial 112 – as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by individuals who, after taking the money, disappear without trace.
