Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri to Target Garda Hoteliers and Shops

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in Middle and Upper Garda, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

These are not military personnel but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, the police, fire brigade, or municipal officers.

How to recognize scams and how to respond

They often offer subscriptions to non-existent magazines or magazines unrelated to law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri – just dial 112 – as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who, after collecting the money, disappear.
