Garda Scammers Pose as Carabinieri to Trick Hoteliers and Shopkeepers

They pretend to be Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, proposing subscriptions to magazines associated with the force.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, firefighters, or municipal officers.

How to recognize scams and how to respond

They often suggest subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those that have nothing to do with law enforcement forces.

So, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri – simply dial 112 – as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who, after receiving the money, disappears.
