Scammers Impersonate Authorities to Trick Garda Hoteliers and Shopkeepers

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in Medio and Alto Garda, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, firefighters, or municipal officers.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or magazines unrelated to law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri—simply dial 112—once you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

had the sum of money, will no longer show themselves.
