Garda Scam Alert: Recognize and Respond to Carabinieri Impersonation

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, craftsmen, and restaurant owners in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to military-themed magazines.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to financial agencies, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipality’s vigilance.

How to recognize scams and how to respond

They often propose subscriptions to fake magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, stay alert and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

absent of cash, disappears.
