Con Artists Impersonate Carabinieri to Scam Hoteliers and Businesses
They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Medio and Alto Garda areas, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.
They are not soldiers, but con artists who, from time to time, claim to be part of the finance department, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.
How to recognize scams and how to react
They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with the law enforcement.
Therefore, be vigilant and immediately alert the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,
having the cash, disappears without a trace.
