Scammers Impersonate Police to Target Garda Hoteliers and Retailers
They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.
They are not real officers, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the regular police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.
How to recognize scams and how to respond
They often offer subscriptions to fake magazines or magazines unrelated to law enforcement.
Therefore, be vigilant and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,
claiming to have money, quickly disappears.
