Scammers Pose as Police to Target Garda Businesses, Authorities Warn

They pretend to be Carabinieri when contacting hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restauranteurs in the Medio and Alto Garda regions, offering subscriptions to magazines affiliated with the force.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to be part of the finance police, the police, firefighters, or municipal police forces.

How to recognize scams and how to respond

They often offer subscriptions to magazines that are either nonexistent or have no connection to the law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

if they have money, disappear and can no longer be found.
