Garda Scammers Pose as Carabinieri, Offer Fake Magazine Subscriptions

They pretend to be Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance department, police, fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be careful and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

would otherwise take money and then disappear.
