Garda Area Con Artists Impersonate Carabinieri to Scam Businesses
They impersonate Carabinieri when calling hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to military magazines.
They are not military personnel but con artists who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance department, police, fire brigade, or municipal officers.
How to recognize scams
They often propose subscriptions to fictitious magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement agencies.
Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,
would be seeking money, and then disappears.
