Garda Scam Alert: Beware Fake Calls Posing as Authorities

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to magazines associated with the armed forces.

These are not military personnel but scammers who, each time, claim to belong to the finance department, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal officers.

Recognizing the scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have no connection with the authorities.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

if they have money, disappear and are no longer seen.
