Fake Carabinieri Phone Scams Targeting Garda Hoteliers and Businesses

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda regions, proposing subscriptions to magazines of the force.

These are not military personnel, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

Recognizing the scams

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines unrelated to the law enforcement.

Hence, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who, if they have money, stops appearing.
