Scammers Impersonate Police to Sell Fake Magazine Subscriptions

They impersonate Carabinieri when calling hoteliers, shop owners, craftsmen, and restaurant owners in the Middle and Upper Garda region, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police (Vigili Urbani).

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement agencies (forces of order).

So, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by individuals who,

if they have money, disappear from sight.
