Garda Area Scam Alert: Fake Police Calls Targeting Businesses

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda area, proposing subscriptions to magazines of the force.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to be affiliated with the finance police, regular police, fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

How to Recognize Scams

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

if they are after money, disappear without a trace.
