Garda-area Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri to Trick Local Businesses

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to magazines associated with the force.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance department, the police, the fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or ones that have nothing to do with law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately inform the real Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

has money but disappears from sight.
