Garda Scam Alerts: Fraudsters Impersonate Police for Fake Magazine Offers

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda, proposing subscriptions to military magazines.

These are not soldiers, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to the Finance Police, the Police, the Fire Department, or the Municipal Police.

Recognizing scams

They often suggest subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,
