Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri to Trick Garda Businesses

They are impersonating Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in Medio and Alto Garda, offering subscriptions to the army‘s magazines.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to be affiliated with finance authorities, the police, firefighters, or the Comune fire brigade.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by someone who,

has money, and then disappears.
