Garda Area Scammers Pose as Carabinieri to Trick Hoteliers and Shops

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to army magazines.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance department, the police, the fire brigade, or the Comune (Municipality) police.

Recognizing scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to the law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

if they are after money, tend to disappear quickly.
