Garda Area Fraud Alert: Recognize and Report Impersonation Scams

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to magazine of the armed forces.

These are not military personnel, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, the police, the fire brigade, or the Municipal Police.

Recognizing scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to the law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be careful and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri — you just need to dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by someone who,

if they are after money, no longer shows themselves.
