Fraudsters Impersonate Carabinieri to Scam Businesses in Garda Area

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Medio and Alto Garda areas, offering subscriptions to police force magazines.

These are not actual military personnel but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the regular police, the fire brigade, or the Comune‘s civil protection.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

if they are after money, tend to disappear without a trace.
