Garda Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri to Trick Local Businesses

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda, offering subscriptions to the military’s magazines.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to be part of the finance department, police, firefighters, or the Municipality’s security services.

Recognizing scams

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement authorities.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by those who,

for money, no longer show themselves.
