Garda Scam Alert: Fraudsters Impersonate Carabinieri Asking for Money

They impersonate Carabinieri when calling hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering magazine subscriptions related to the armed forces.

They are not military personnel, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance department, police, firefighters, or the Municipal police.

How to Recognize Scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those that have nothing to do with the law enforcement.

Therefore, be careful and immediately notify the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect being targeted by individuals who,

if they request money, disappear from view.
